MORE
Potassium (K) is a chemical element from the group of alkali metals in the periodic table. Potassium was discovered in England in 1807 by Sir Humphrey Davy. The K symbol is derived from the Latin name "kalium".
Potassium is on the eighth place in terms of distribution in the top layer of the Earth's crust (weight percentages). In nature it can be found only in the form of compounds. It exists in the form of minerals, the most important of which are: sylvite, kainite, karnalite, langbeinite and various types of aluminosilicates. Sea water contains about 0.06% potassium chloride, which corresponds to 388 grams of K in 1000 kilograms of this water.
Mineral fertilization is the most important procedure having impact on future yield of growing plants.
In addition to nitrogen, potassium is the most important nutrient with the strongest impact on yield of cultivated crops in Poland.
This is because the soils are mostly light and poor in potassium. Almost 40% have a low or very low K content and only about 30% of the soils are above average. On the other hand, soil is the basic means of production and, if maintained in good condition, it allows to give good yields for many years, thus positively influencing the financial condition of the farms.
